Scissor-arm Bioclimatic
The louvres rotate and stack at one end in a single movement, opening the roof fully to the sky.
How it works
In a single movement the aluminium louvres rotate and fold together on a scissor linkage, stacking in a small area at one end of the roof. In between, you change the louvre angle to set sun, shade and airflow. In the closed 0° position, seals on the louvres and around the frame keep water and air out, and rain drains through the integrated gutter.
From closed to fully open
Closed
At 0° the louvres close edge to edge; the seals keep water and air out.
Rotate
The louvres rotate together. In between, you set the shade and the airflow.
Retract
The scissor arms fold and the upright louvres gather towards one end.
Open
The louvres form a compact stack at one end; most of the roof opens to the sky.
How much sky you get when fully open
Retracted louvres do not disappear; they form a stack at one end. Knowing its size helps you place the seating in the right spot.
The stack allowance and module size vary by project; exact dimensions are taken at the site survey and shown on the drawing.
- Opening: most of the roof
- Louvre stack: gathers at one end; its allowance is shown on the survey drawing
- Single module: set per project; exact size confirmed at the survey
- Larger areas: modules side by side
One roof,
all year
The louvre angle changes with the season and time of day; the same roof gives shade in summer and sun in winter.
System options
Control, lighting and mounting options are confirmed per project at the site survey.

Frequently asked questions about retractable bioclimatic roofs
With the louvres closed, the seals keep water out; rain on the louvres runs into the perimeter gutters and down through the posts to the ground. In very heavy downpours, or if leaves block the gutters, they can overflow. If you open the louvres right after the rain, a few remaining drops may fall inside.
A closed roof keeps the rain off and extends the season, but a bioclimatic roof is not an insulated room. Closing the sides with glass systems or zip screens and adding a heater makes a clear difference in winter. If you want to use the space as a room, a winter garden is the better choice.
On most systems the louvres are opened in strong wind to reduce the load on the roof. The louvres should not be moved when iced up, and opening them before expected snow is generally recommended. Rain and wind sensor options are assessed per project at the site survey, together with local wind and snow conditions.
Total area, the model, the number of modules and posts, the mounting type, frame colour, lighting and control options, and any side enclosures. The final price is based on measurements taken on site.
Powder-coated aluminium needs no repainting, but the system is not maintenance-free. Gutters and leaf guards should be cleaned at least twice a year, especially after autumn. Wipe louvres and profiles with water, a neutral cleaner and a soft cloth; avoid abrasive products.
