Insect Screens - Başaran

Insect Screens

Keep insects out of doors, windows and glazed balconies while fresh air and daylight still come in. Choose a pleated or hinged screen to suit each opening.

Which mesh stops which insect?

The size of the mesh holes decides what a screen stops. Smaller holes stop smaller insects, but they also let in less air.

Stops: mosquitoes, house flies

The mesh used in most homes. It stops mosquitoes, house flies and wasps and lets through the most air and light. Used on both models.

Which mesh can be fitted to your opening is discussed during the site visit.

Where they are Insect Screens - Where they are usedused

An insect screen helps wherever you want to let air in. The type of opening and how often it is used decide which model fits.

Glazed balconies and terraces

A pleated screen runs in its own track behind the glass panels. Open the glazing, then draw the mesh across; it does not get in the way of the folding panels.

Sliding patio doors

On wide sliding doors the mesh gathers into the side profile, so it leaves the full passage free when you do not need it.

Bedroom and nursery windows

In rooms where you sleep with the window open, a hinged screen seals the opening with a full frame. If there is no room for a swinging frame, choose the pleated model.

Kitchen and service doors

Where the project allows, spring hinges close the frame by itself when released, so café, restaurant and kitchen doors are never left open.

Frequently asked questions about insect screens

Look at the type of opening and how often you will open the screen. For glazed balconies, sliding doors and wide openings, the pleated screen is the natural choice: it folds to the side and needs no space to open. For windows and doors in daily use, a hinged screen that opens like a door is practical. If a shutter, railing or glazed balcony sits where the frame would swing, choose the pleated model.

Yes. Because the pleated screen slides sideways in a slim track, it does not interfere with the glass panels as they open and stack. The track position and fixing surface are set during the site visit, based on the balcony glazing profile.

Width and height of the opening, the system, the number of panels, the profile colour and the fixing surface all affect the price. Pleated systems usually cost more than hinged ones because of the folding mesh and tension cords. The final price is based on measurements taken on site.

Just tell us how many doors and windows need a screen and their approximate sizes. Our team will arrange a visit to measure on site and check which way the frames open, how far the handles project and whether there are shutters. The quote is based on these measurements.

A vacuum with a soft brush or a damp cloth is enough. Clean a pleated screen in place, wiping along the folds. On most hinged screens the frame lifts off its hinges and can be rinsed with water. Do not use pressure washers, stiff brushes or solvents.

An insect screen is not built to withstand storms. Fold a pleated screen into its side profile in strong wind and during the months you do not use it. Keep a hinged screen closed, or lift it off and store it over winter.

No. An insect screen is designed only to keep insects out and will not hold the weight of a child or a pet. Standard mesh is not cat-claw resistant either. For window safety, use separate measures such as child safety locks or opening restrictors.

Fine mesh stops mosquitoes and house flies. Where tiny midges or sandflies are common, a tighter weave and edge sealing can be considered; however, smaller pores reduce airflow slightly and need cleaning more often.
