Winter Gardens & Glass Roofs
Cover a terrace, garden or courtyard with glass. Daylight stays in, rain and snow stay out. Two models: sloped or flat roof.
Sloped or
flat?
The two models differ in roof shape and in how they attach to the building. With a wall to fix to, either model works; without one, choose the flat model.

Exact measurements and specifications are finalised after the site survey.
Fixed Glass Systems Catalogue · PDFHow will you use the space?
The same frame can be built for three different needs. Glass and side enclosures are chosen by when and how you will use the space.
To sit outside in the rain without cutting daylight to the house. A fixed glass roof is installed and the sides stay open. The space follows the outdoor temperature; a laminated glass or polycarbonate roof is usually enough.

If you plan to remove the door between the house and the winter garden, tell us at the site survey.
Roof infill: insulating glass, laminated glass or polycarbonate
All three infills fit both models. The flat model takes insulating glass and polycarbonate up to 32 mm, and laminated glass at 8-12 mm.
For insulating glass in roofs, a toughened outer pane and a laminated inner pane are recommended; the build-up is stated in the quote.
Low-E insulating glass
Two panes with a sealed cavity. Reduces heat loss; for spaces heated and used all year.
Laminated glass
A safety interlayer between two panes; if broken, fragments stay on the film instead of falling. For unheated enclosures and roof-only covers.
Polycarbonate
Lighter than glass and highly impact-resistant. Lets light through softly but is less transparent than glass; for budget-led projects.
Where is it
used?
A winter garden extends a room of the house outdoors. A fixed glass roof covers an existing terrace or courtyard from above.

Frequently asked questions about winter gardens and glass roofs
If the winter garden will lean against the house, both models work: the sloped roof sheds rain and snow forward along a visible slope, while the flat roof lines up with modern façades. The flat model looks level from outside; rainwater collects in the gutter built into the profile and runs down inside the posts. For a glass room that stands apart in the garden, choose the flat model.
It depends on the glazing in the roof and sides and on whether the space is heated. Low-E insulating glass reduces heat loss; single glass or polycarbonate keeps out rain and wind but does not hold heat like a room. If you plan to use it as a living room in winter, mention it at the survey so the glazing is chosen accordingly.
Under glass roofs facing south or west, summer sun can raise the temperature quickly. Glazing choice, shading and ventilation against summer heat are assessed together at the site survey based on orientation.
Width and projection, the chosen model, the roof infill (insulating glass, laminated glass or polycarbonate), the number of posts, the mounting type, how the sides are closed and the profile colour. The final price is based on measurements taken on site.
Tell us the type of space, the approximate width and depth, and whether there is a wall to attach to. Our team schedules an on-site visit to measure; the ground, wall and drainage are checked, and the quote is based on these measurements.
Alterations to the exterior of an apartment building may require approval from building management or co-owners; we review this together at the site survey.
Never walk on a glass roof. Clean the outer surface with long-handled tools or from a load-spreading walkway. Clear leaves from the gutter and outlets at least twice a year, especially in autumn, so water flows freely, and check the seals at the same time.
In cold weather, if moist air from the house reaches the winter garden, condensation can appear on glass and profiles. This is common. Regular, controlled ventilation is the most effective way to prevent it; insulating glass also lowers the risk.
