Drop-arm Awning
A façade-mounted awning whose arms swing out at an angle to shade windows and shop fronts.
How it works
The fabric is rolled up in a housing fixed to the façade. When it opens, two side arms pivot outwards on wall brackets; the arms keep the fabric taut at any angle. The bottom and sides stay open, so it blocks the sun without cutting off air or view. With the motor option the awning opens and closes at the touch of a button.
How a drop-arm awning opens
Closed
The fabric is rolled in the box; the arms rest against the wall with the front bar under the box.
Arms swing out
As the fabric unrolls, the two side arms pivot outward around their wall joints.
Angle to the sun
For high midday sun the arms open close to horizontal and the shade reaches further out. For low afternoon sun the arms stay steeper and the fabric drops in front of the glass.
Open underneath
The fabric stays taut; air passes underneath, the window can still open and the shop front stays visible.
Retract the awning in strong wind. Rain and wind sensor options are assessed per project at the site survey.
Parts of a drop-arm awning
A dome awning is closed at the sides; a drop-arm awning has only two slim arms and a front bar.

Drop-arm awning or zip screen?
Both stop the sun outside, but one leaves the opening free and the other closes it.
Question 1Does the opening need to be fully closed against wind and insects?

Frequently asked questions about awnings
External systems usually reduce heat gain more, because they stop the sun before it reaches the glass. Internal blinds meet the sunlight after it has passed through the glass; they are effective for controlling light, glare and privacy. On hot elevations the two can be combined.
Alterations to the exterior of an apartment building may require approval from building management or co-owners; we review this together at the site survey.
For pleated and Venetian blinds, a soft brush or a dry microfibre cloth is usually enough; wipe Venetian slats closed, first tilted one way, then the other. Zip screen and awning fabric can be wiped while lowered with a soft cloth and lukewarm soapy water; keep the side rails clear of leaves and dust. Do not machine-wash pleated fabric, and do not soak blackout fabrics.
The system chosen, overall size, fabric or slat type, colour, motorised or manual operation and the mounting surface all affect the price. The final quote is based on measurements taken on site.
Just tell us the type of space, approximate dimensions and the system you have in mind. Our team will book an appointment to measure on site, and the quote is prepared from those measurements. On glass balconies we measure with the movement of the panels in mind.
